There’s been a lot of great work with creative Twitter bots lately–Twitter accounts that automatically tweet according to some algorithm. My current favorite is Mark Sample‘s @WhitmanFML, which mashes up Whitman’s barbaric yawps with mundane complaints from the #FML hashtag. The Whitman bot is based off Darius Kazemi’s open code for the @LatourSwag bot; you can download the code and read documenting on customizing it over at the GitHub repo. Right now, I’m playing around customizing the code to build a (predictably) Joycean version of the bot. The idea is to mash up pieces of Ulysses with the awful #YOLO (You Only Live Once) hashtag to create @YOLODID: You Only Live One Day in Dublin (Ulysses being about the events of, roughly, a single day in Dublin). Looking forward to seeing what strange tweets come out of this project! You can follow @YOLODID now (and possibly get some weird tweets as I work on the code…), or I’ll also be tweeting via @Literature_Geek when the bot is running well.
