A day of a digital humanist is a very busy one. So that is why I found time to write about it only at the end of my working day. My day started with a skype-telephony with my colleagues from the University of Wuppertal. We discussed tools we have been developing over the last year for creating a sophisticated critical edition. The first tool is called Transcribo. It helps scholars to transcribe complicated manuscripts. Here one can load a scan of a manuscript and while transcribing it, one can create critical annotations with GUI. As product one gets a TEI-similar XML-file with all needed critical annotations. Another piece of software that we are using is called FUD. It is a database for scholarly projects to collect both data and files.

After the lunch break I have been working on planning a program for digital collating. Collating is a method, where scholars compare two or more witnesses of the same text. Meanwhile there are some tools, which do this job for you. However a computer program gets confuse, when witnesses differ too much or if there are too big gaps. Therefore I have been working on planning of software, which can first determine which text parts belong together and then compare these text parts in order to get differences.
